Senator Mike Gabbard represents Hawai‘i’s 21st Senatorial District, which includes Kapolei, Makakilo, Kalaeloa, and portions of Fernandez Valley and Ewa. He has served in the State Senate since 2006. He also served on the Honolulu City Council from 2003-2005.
Senator Gabbard currently serves as Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Environment. He is also Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Government Operations.
Born on January 15, 1948 in American Samoa, Senator Gabbard and his wife, Carol, have five children and ten grandchildren. He is a 1965 graduate of Choctawhatchee High School, Ft. Walton Beach, FL and received a B.A. in English from California State University, Sonoma in 1971 and a Master of Education (M.ED) degree in Adult Education from Oregon State University in 1980.
